Well I started off well with 25 things but soon went off the rails so to speak. I found it difficult to make time to take a look at some of the tasks, some were time consuming but also my own workload was an issue.

Some of the things I did take a look at I’m not sure I’ll use again but it’s always useful to be aware of what is out there as you never know when a need will arise. I’d certainly recommend 25 things to colleagues but with a caveat that they might not always have the time they need to really get into the tasks.

One thing I would add is that when you add a link that takes the reader away from the 25 things site you then have to use the back button lots to get back to the 25 things home page (either that or look for the link in your ‘favourites’ again’). It might be an idea to have any links open up in a new window, that way the 25 things site would still be available once the reader has simply closed down the linked to site.

If you’re thinking of new ‘things’ to add how about something on QR (Quick Response)codes? These are starting to get popular now, I’ve even noticed them appearing on my bills from BT and British Gas and it’s easy to download readers and QR generators.

I’ve always wanted to go to a silent disco. I found one on You Tube at Johy Rylands Library Manchester, looks like fun!

I’d also not been sure how to upload YouTube video onto a blog but am now, thanks.

Well I’ve not done too well with 25 things but am determined to give most things a go when I’ve got the time. Just registered with LibraryThing and added a few books. Not sure this is something I’d use much I have to say, I tend to like browsing bookshops and library shelves ‘for real’ when I’m after something to read. I did enjoy reading some of the review/comments put on about the books in my library though.

I’ve chosen to link to a photo of a mural near Arundel Gate, Sheffield. It used to fascinate me as a little ‘un, wondering how they got there! I’ve got a book that tells the story behind it, I’ll try and remember to dig it out and write a bit more.

Hello

I’m trying to join the 25 things group on Facebook but as there are quite a few I’m not sure which is the right one to join. Wouldn’t like to get myself inadvertently involved with any old bunch would I and end up doing bogus 25 things! Can anyone send a link to the right group (apologies if there is a link and I’ve missed it).

Hello

Well I would say I was a bit late to Facebook, probably been using it for about 2 years now. I will be honest and say at first I wasn’t sure what all the fuss was about but as soon as I signed up I was hooked. It’s a great way to get in touch with people you used to go to school/work with and find out what they’re up to these days and it’s also a useful way of keeping in touch with friends you don’t see so often (usually because they live miles away).

Here at UCB we have a Facebook page which is used a fair bit by students. Some use it to promote events they have organised and others have even used it to make a complaint (maybe without the Facebook forum they would have just kept their grievance to themselves, we’d be none the wiser and the problem would persist so it can have uses other than being just for fun).

I thought by now my use of Facebook would have subsided but as new friends get added and get in touch I’m still posting on walls and updating my status. I do seem to spend a lot of time uploading photos of my little girl these days, something I swore I wouldn’t do but she is so lovely!

I also have a Twitter account but rarely use it as I prefer Facebook. It doesn’t seem as user friendly as Facebook to me and most of the people I’m friends with on Facebook are not on Twitter, hence it gets used less.

Hello 25 things

I’m Sarah and I work in the library at the Barnsley Campus. I’ve done a bit of blogging before and am familiar with some Web 2.0 applications but hope to use the 25 things sessions to really get to grips with some of the applications I’ve not tried before.

I’ve already done something new, set up a Google Mail account.
